Crime News: Unprovoked Attacks in Queens Lead to 5 Stabbings, Suspect Apprehended, Police Report

In recent crime news, a suspect linked to at least five unprovoked stabbings across Queens this month has been apprehended, as reported by a spokesperson from the New York Police Department. Jermain Rigueur, 27, is now facing charges including multiple counts of attempted murder, assault, attempted assault, and criminal possession of a weapon.

AllWorldStats has sought comments from the Queens district attorney regarding the case and to ascertain if Rigueur has legal representation. The district attorney’s office, however, stated that they currently have no information on the matter.

Prior to the arrest, authorities were searching for an individual who, according to NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell’s statement at a news conference, was “randomly stabbing people with a hunting knife.” The victims, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, were unrelated, and the attacks occurred over a 9-day period between midnight and 8:30 a.m. in southern Queens.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams mentioned on Thursday that Riguer had attacked six people, though investigations are ongoing. The most recent incident, on Wednesday morning, resulted from a verbal dispute between the suspect and victim on a bus, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny.

Surveillance footage revealed the suspect “talking to himself” and “stabbing the front window of a bodega” after the attacks, as explained by Kenny during the news conference.

On Wednesday, a 71-year-old man and a 41-year-old man were stabbed minutes apart while walking. The police are actively searching for the knife-wielding assailant responsible for these seemingly unprovoked attacks, which also included a woman stabbed in the torso while walking home on Tuesday.

The first recorded attack took place on January 8, targeting a 61-year-old man while he was walking, as per police reports. All these stabbings were described as “very random, not a word was said, totally unprovoked,” according to Detective Kenny.
